How to celebrate the 4th of July by yourself

It's the 4th of July (or any other holiday) and you're alone.  Take the time to celebrate exactly the way you've always wanted.

July 4, 1776 is the day citizens of the United States of America declared their independence from Great Britain.  Every year July 4 is observed as a national holiday complete with large gatherings, picnics, parades, ball games, cookouts and fireworks.

If you are alone for any reason, perhaps on a business trip or at school, how can you celebrate the 4th of July by yourself?  Or, if you are stuck at home, no one else around, how can you possibly commemorate the occasion?  Think red, white and blue, and choose to do any of the same activities you might do with family or friends.

Instructions
Step 1

Research the meaning of the 4th of July on the Internet or read a book about the American Revolution.

Step 2

Fly the American flag in front of your home.  Dress in red, white and blue.  Weave red, white and blue crepe paper in your bicycle spokes.

Step 3

Cook your favorite foods or traditional 4th of July fare. Grill a hamburger. Microwave a potato, cool it, mix in mayonnaise and seasonings, and--viola, you have potato salad!  Husk and de-silk one ear of corn. Wrap it in wax paper and microwave it for one minute or until reaches tenderness desired.  Cut up a bowlful of red, white and blue fruits. Check a bakery or grocery store for an appropriately decorated dessert.

Step 4

Check the newspapers or Internet for a schedule of local events.  Attend a local ball game and cheer for both teams.  Watch a parade while standing among strangers, cheering loudly or silently giving gratitude to those who attained America’s freedom.  If neither parade nor ball game is available to you, check the television for these events.

Step 5

Take a long walk or bike ride. Carefully observe your surroundings and appreciate the freedom you enjoy.
