Essential Christmas planning

Happy Christmas, peace on earth and goodwill to all.

It will soon be that time of year again

It seems as if Christmas comes around much sooner each year. Perhaps it is simply that, as I age, the year flies by so quickly? In truth I think though it is simply because the commercial side of Christmas begins in early autumn these days.

By late September the first signs of Christmas are appearing. Shops will have a smattering of Christmas cards and one or two seasonal toys, and then suddenly, bang, they are full of Christmas goods.

When I created this Zone in early November it felt about the right time to be thinking of Christmas.

Whether you celebrate Christmas as The Birth of Christ and a religious holiday, or as a time for giving and receiving presents, with plenty of over indulgences, is up to you. One thing is for sure, Christmas is celebrated around the World, even in many far flung places.

This zone will hopefully include some great hints and tips for enjoying the Christmas festivities, and may help with the mammoth task of planning the perfect Christmas.

Remember though the vital ingredients of a great Christmas are good cheer and people, so have fun and Happy Holidays.

Hi Ethel. You have a beautiful zone here, definitely reflecting the mood of the season. Its like I can almost *smell* Christmas here :) and have a feeling of nostalgia too. You know how it is when u grow up and the family is spread all over the globe.... Well, I certainly liked your poem too on Santa Claus. Very child-like and yes- again there, a very nostalgic feeling. Beautiful zone, Ethel. Way to go!

Lovely zone Ethel! I agree with Raven, nice collection of materials, a lot of diversity in topics all tied beautifully together to Christmas.

More of Ethel's Christmas information

  • Hubby and I married on 23rd December 1972. That means that last week, just before Christmas we celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary. That statement evokes such a mixture of feelings. Love, familiarity, age and so much more. I hope that sharing these experiences with you, dear reader, will help you get life and its ups and downs into perspective. Into all life some rain must fall, so grab the good times, when they come along, in a tight hug. Weddings are about more than the expensive

  • For those readers who would like to give something back to their community, and volunteer to help those in need at Christmas, there are many places where your help would be greatly appreciated. As Hub Pages is a world wide website this Hub will share ideas for volunteering, that are general ideas. It will be no good listing individual places in certain towns to the multi cultural Hub Pages community. Instead this hub will maybe point those willing to volunteer in the right direction.

  • do not know about where you live but, in the UK, most towns and cities decorate their main shopping areas for the Christmas holiday season. When I was young, sorry to reminisce again, our City centre was ablaze with lights. There was always a huge, traditional tree in the main square, full of decorations. Our local train station had a tree, that was nearly as large, in its waiting area. This tree had charity boxes which people would fill. Put a coin in one of these boxes and a toy train would tra
